What file format should I supply my artwork In?
A Guide to supplying Artwork.
Follow these four simple steps to ensure your artwork is print-ready:
1. File Formats
We accept a variety of formats, but our preferred choices are PDF and JPEG. Check out the list below for more details on accepted formats. For PDF files, we’ve provided specific guidelines further down the page to help you save them correctly.
2. Resolution
Tip #1: For optimal print quality, please save your files at 300 ppi (pixels per inch). If your artwork is saved at a lower resolution, it may appear blurry or pixelated when printed.
Tip #2: Always save your artwork at the final printed size. If you send us a smaller version expecting it to be enlarged, the quality will suffer. We can reduce the size if needed, but enlarging can lead to loss of detail and clarity.
3. Color Mode
To achieve the best color results, save your artwork in CMYK mode. This color format represents the ink colors used in printing. While we can convert your files to CMYK, this may alter the colors and affect the final print. Designing in CMYK will give you a more accurate preview of how your printed piece will look.
4. Bleed
Bleed is the extra area around your artwork that ensures a clean edge after trimming. We recommend adding a 3mm bleed on all sides. After printing and trimming, it will be returned to you at the standard A6 size of 105 x 148mm.
Supplying PDF Artwork: The Essential Guide
We prefer all artwork to be submitted as high-resolution PDFs with embedded fonts. PDFs are becoming the standard for print files, but proper preparation is key to achieving the best results.
Important: CMYK, Not RGB
All embedded images must be in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) format. While RGB images look good on screens, the final print is always in CMYK, and converting from RGB can significantly alter colors.
Handling Microsoft Office Files
When creating PDFs from MS Publisher or Word, ensure spot colours are set correctly. Avoid using RGB colours, as they cannot be printed accurately.
EPS Files and Other Formats
For any files not covered above, save them as EPS or JPEG. Ensure these files include bleed and crop marks, and provide the final artwork size. A hard copy for reference is also appreciated.
Bleed and Crop Marks Guidelines
- All artwork must include 3mm bleed if you want the image to extend to the paper edge.
- If there’s no bleed, include crop marks that are 5mm long and 3mm outside the page area, colored in 'registration' to appear on each color separation.
Artwork Size
Always supply artwork at the correct final size. If adjustments are needed, please notify us in advance to allow for necessary amendments.
Imposition
Please do not supply imposed pages or “printer’s pairs.” Our workflow uses imposition software to handle this correctly.
Booklet Submissions
For multi-page documents, please provide the front and back cover as separate files and submit all pages in order. Remember to allow for "creep" by keeping all text at least 5mm away from the trimmed edge.
