Live For The Next Five Minutes

We've all been there from time to time. Sometimes we have too much to deal with at once. We feel overwhelmed and unable to cope and all that we really want to do is pull the covers over our head and hide away from it all. When things get really bad we can find ourselves feeling utterly hopeless and trapped and can't even imagine a light at the end of the tunnel. 


You find yourself thinking; Ive had enough, I cant do this. Im only one person, this is too much. This is hopeless. And if it all gets too painful for too long we start to think I'm done, this is too much, I don't want to be here anymore.


When life gets to this point there is no one quick fix. But I am going to share with you something that helped. It didn't remove my challenges but it helped me keep going and it helped me to feel less overwhelmed.


Its super simple this one. When you are feeling at your lowest and when you are completely overwhelmed with your life - REIGN YOUR MIND IN!  Live for the next 5 minutes ONLY! 


If you monitor your thoughts you will notice that you are constantly thinking about things that have happened in the past, things that haven't happened yet but might and even things that haven't happenened at all and probably never will. We worry and we terrorise ourselves with the past and the future and it is no wonder that we become overwhelmed.


When you find yourself off thinking about the past or worrying about what is going to happen tomorrow, next week or next year, quit that thought and come back to this now moment. Decide what you would like to do with your next 5 minutes. You can decide to do something that makes you feel worse, the same or better. Then when that five minutes is over, decide what you are going to do with the next five. Over time, as


life becomes more manageable you may feel that you want to lengthen that to 10 minutes, an hour, a day. 


Sit and ask yourself this. What to I gain by worrying about the past and the future. Can you think of one good thing that this gives you? Does it calm you, does it make you feel hopeful, does it keep you safe in any way? Maybe it does. But if it doesn’t, like any habit that effects you negatively, leave it behind. You cannot effect the past or the future you can only ever change or effect this now moment. All of your power is here. Maybe there is plenty to worry about in the future but you can only ever act on the here and now.


So what are you going to do for the next 5 minutes?
